OUR HISTORY

DECEMBER 2013

It all started in December 2013, when owner Steve Maillette purchased a piece of land in Saint-Calixte. A site that looked like nothing at first glance, but that was full of potential in his eyes. With more than 25 years of experience in events with his company Les Productions Unity specializing in the rental of technical equipment and which offers turnkey service to its customers, Steve was full of ambition. He wanted to acquire and create his own site where he could produce his own events.

Since the acquisition of the 45 Degrés Nord site, the development, construction and improvements are constantly evolving, which is what has allowed the site to evolve at such a high speed. Clearing the land began the day he purchased the site and in the spring everything accelerated. Dynamiting the parking lot, construction of the terrace and construction of several obstacles quickly transformed the site in preparation of the first scheduled event on June 14 and 15, 2014.

JUNE 2014

It was in June 2014 that the 45 Degrés Nord was opened to the public for the first time for Course Extrême, a 5km permanent course with around twenty obstacles at that time. It was with a barely started terrace, a few major obstacles and a lot of mud that the runners had their first Extreme Race experience.

Work on the terrace, the fire tower, the obstacles and the site continued until the second race of the season, on September 13 and 14, 2014. For this race, there were now 32 obstacles including half of the fire tower, which was completed shortly after. In addition to the race, 45 Degrés Nord welcomed the very first corporate groups.

2015 TO 2019

From 2015 to 2018, new obstacles were built in addition to putting a lot of effort into maintaining the terrain and existing structures. The count went from 42 obstacles to 50 obstacles in 3 years!

The following year was a year of change with the arrival of our new race director, Michael Rasson as well as the construction of 4 new major obstacles. By making changes to each of our races with new wooded trails and inverting the current course, Michael brought a breath of fresh air to to update Course Extrême.

We are proud to have been able to present at least 2 races each year, both at the end of spring and summer.

YEAR 2020 - 2021

2020 and 2021 were certainly different years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We had to cancel our first race of the 2020 season, it was scheduled for May. Although this news shocked us, we quickly reflected on possible solutions and a recovry plan.

Although this two years have brought their share of challenges, we have been able to adapt to the various changes. Although the number of runners was small compared to what we are used to seeing on the site, the visitors had a memorable experience. In addition, we have improved our course and created new obstacles including extreme wheels and dancing poles, two favorites.

OUR FUTURE

For the future, we will continue our evolution and we will renew ourselves from year to year. We plan to create new obstacles and vary the course frequently so that each of your Course Extreme experiences is different.

We are very confident that 2022 will be an exceptional year for Course Extreme, as  we have big projects and a lot of ambition. We are aware that we will have to adapt to the sanitary measures, but we are ready to offer you Course Extreme in a safe and pleasant environment for all.
